FIBRATEC is Alkali Resistant (AR)glass fibre with the highest zirconium content in the world. The fibre is added to concrete as a replacement for welded steel mesh in the construction of flooring.


The product adds quality and is quick and simple to use, eliminating a lot of labour and avoiding the accidents and injuries which occur in the handling, cutting and positioning of steel mesh.

¿Para qué sirve la Fibra de Vidrio AR?

Al añadir fibra de vidrio AR de FIBRATEC en el hormigón se crea un “composite” (compuesto). Las Concrete flooring should always be built on ground with the sufficient load-bearing capacity and after suitable compaction. However, when a floor is subjected to exceptional loads, there is arisk of it cracking due to concrete’s very low tensile strength, both in terms of flexural and shear strength. Welded steel mesh and glass fibre are both responsible for absorbing and distributing these loads to alleviate the stresses and to avoid cracking.


¿Por qué la Fibra de Vidrio AR?

Las soleras de hormigón se deben construir siempre sobre un terreno con la suficiente capacidad portante tras una compactación adecuada. Sin embargo, en el momento en que se ejercen cargas puntuales sobre la solera, ésta corre el peligro de fisuración debido a la muy baja resistencia a tracción del hormigón ya sea por flexotracción o por punzonamiento. Tanto los mallazos electrosoldados como las fibras se encargan de absorber y distribuir estas cargas para aliviar las tensiones y evitar esta fisuración.

Dosing, Mixing and Packaging

  • As an anti-cracking agent and to avoid using steel mesh in domestic-industrial applications:0.4 – 3 kg/m3.
  • Mix in a concrete plant or in a concrete mixer truck at a maximum speed of 15 r.p.m., adding 2kg per minute.
  • Add 2 to 3kg per minute. After adding all the permitted glass fibre, allow an additional minute of mixing.
  • No water or plasticizers need to be added. Recommended cone slump= 10cm, ideal aggregate size = 12mm (maximum 20mm).
  • PACKAGING:1kg paper bags or 20kg sacks.
  • PALLETSIZES :540kg and 720kg respectively.

Independently of whether you use welded steel mesh or fibre, it is essential for the subsoil to be well compacted, in order to increase the resistance of the floor. Using fibres still requires good practice when making concrete (CBR above 3%, following the application advice).

NEVER attempt to replace steel reinforcements with fibre in elements that perform structural functions (load-bearing walls, columns, girders, etc.).

  • glass fibre does not allow you to increase the distance between contraction joints.
  • It is advisable to form transverse joints from the base of columns (forming rhombuses).
  • When screeding, do not forget to clean the existing surface and apply a bonding mortar product.If the screeding is done in a car park, do not reduce thefloor thickness to lessthan 8cm and use aggregates smaller than 20mm.

  • If you have to reduce the thickness by up to 6cm, the maximum size of aggregate should not exceed 10mm.
  • Form complete construction joints with wooden planks when screeding (maximum every 15m).
  • To ensure that the concrete is easily workable, it is recommendable to use aggregate with a homogenous grain size.
